Garage Appliances

Garage remodeling has become a very popular opportunity for today’s homeowners looking to expand their home living, work, and play space.

Garage appliances have become part of most remodels as the garage has become an integrated extension of the normal living space. Appliances such as refrigerators, freezers, heaters, air conditioners, trash compactors, beer taps, microwaves, almost any appliance found or available in your home can now be found in today’s garage remodels.

Appliances are only part of most garage makeovers and provide some of the creature comforts we all need and require. A good garage remodel creates a continuity of look and feel in the new garage. Built-in appliance are surrounded with a good space management layout that is complimented by the stylish storage cabinets, a wall organization system for tools, and equipment, a functional workbench, an epoxy or tile floor, and room for the car.

Here are some garage appliances every garage should have:

Refrigerators - When you are working or playing in your garage and you need a cold drink and the nearest refrigerator is in your clean house it may be time to consider purchasing a refrigerator designed specifically for the garage or simply buying a new or used one at your local store. The convenience of having your cold drinks or perishable nibbles close saves you time and keeps the house cleaner.

Garage Heater – Depending if your garage is attached to your house or separated as a standalone structure often determines if the garage is heated. People don't usually heat their standalone garages because of the added costs. Garage heaters are portable, come in many sizes and can provide heat on an as needed basis. Being portable, heaters can heat specific areas of a garage or room and this saves money and energy while allowing you to get full use of your garage.

Trash Compactor – Every residential garage needs a trash compactor, why you ask? Because most home owners put their trash bins in the garage and wheel them out on pickup day. The garage tends to be the most natural place to store the trash bins and your recycled bottles and cans. A garbage trash compactor can free up some space in your garage and assist the environment at the same time.

Air Conditioners – Most residential garages are not air conditioned and the cost to run vents and added electrical lines is not within many budgets. If you spend a lot of time in the garage you are left with few options. Garage air conditioners are generally of the in the window or wall type. At the very least you may be required to install a new separate electrical line for a new window or wall air conditioning unit. That said, yes there are air conditioning units specifically designed for garages. However, the interior volume of the garage determines the cooling load a window or wall unit can handle reasonably. The cooling load is directly proportioned to the cost of the air conditioning unit

Beer Taps and Microwaves – Currently new on the market are some products that specifically target the garage man cave mentality by offering one of mans most favorite beverage beer. Beer taps with a replaceable portable keg are becoming all the rage in some garage remodels. Add a new home microwave on your workbench plug it in and with your beer tap your ready to party.
