Benefits of Garage Flooring
*Day 1:
Step 1: Grinding: All concrete areas are diamond grinded to expose fresh, clean concrete silica and ensuring a good bond between the epoxy and the concrete substrate. Any cracks or uneven surfaces are grinded on edge to chase out the cracks and allow for patching to go down with good adhesion.
Step 2: **Patching: Cracks, divots and holes are patched using the highest quality polymer-modified patching compound and grinded smooth.
*Day 2:
Step 1: Cleaning: To ensure the best adhesion our flooring installers will clean the floor and make sure all loose debris or dust is removed before starting next step.
Step 2: ***Vapor Barrier: A two-part 100% solids penetrating epoxy vapor barrier is the first layer of epoxy applied. This base coat epoxy primer saturates and penetrates deep into the open pores of the concrete creating a powerfull mechanical and chemical bond that is guaranteed not to break under most scenarios.
Step 3: Colored Epoxy: While the epoxy is still wet, the colored flakes are broadcasted onto and into the floor, in access, to ensure even and consistent coverage. This is known as a full broadcast system.
Stem walls, water heater boxes, etc. can also be coated and flaked at this time if previously discussed and decided upon with the designer.
*Day 3:
Step 1: Scraping: On the final day, the floor is scraped and brushed smooth to remove excess flake before the top-coat is applied. All of the un-stuck vinyl chip previously broadcast onto the floor will now be removed and discarded.
Step 2: Clear Top-Coat: The final step is to lay down the final top coats to seal the floor and provide an excellent cleaning surface. The two-part chemical and abrasion resistant hybrid polymer clear-coat gives the "granite look" floor its durability and beautiful look. The finished floor is resistant to most automotive and household fluids, unaffected by the plasticine in hot tires and is virtually maintenance free.
*Day 4 – 6:
Step 1: Cure Time: In most instances you can walk on the floor after 24 hours and drive on the floor after 72 hours. Depending on the temperature outside, barometer and humidity this time may vary. Please speak with your account representative if you have any concerns or questions regarding cure times or the process of the floor.
Step 2: Proper Ventilation: Upon the floor being finished it is a good idea (if possible) to open up as many doors and windows throughout the house to dissipate any lingering odors. If you have pets or birds it is advisable to leave them outside in the fresh air or in a room unaffected by the smell as much as possible throughout the floor process.
* Process is for typical 2 car 400sq/ft floor with 4 layer hybrid polymer floor– actual application may differ in timing depending on surface of concrete, size of floor and floor coating chosen.
** If doing only a clear coat finish you will be able to see a color difference between the old concrete and new patching material.
*** moisture and alkaloids levels need to be tested before guarantee can be given.

Benefits of Garage Flooring
1. How qualified is the installer - is he licensed and trustworthy?
Ask for proof of a license. If an installer is not licensed in California and your home is damaged or destroyed due to their negligence, your insurance company will not cover damage costs. Also, keep in mind a do-it-yourself installation project that causes damage will also lead to insurance coverage problems. Lastly, make sure the replacement parts being installed meet City and State building codes.
2. Is the installer or company always prepping the floor with the latest technology such as Diamond Grinding and Crack Repair?
All of us know you get what you pay for. In the garage flooring business never a truer word was said. Untrained, uncaring installers cut corners to increase their profits, and unwittingly homeowners allow these installers to install a floor coating without proper preparation. Factually without a diamond grind the concrete will not adequately accept subsequent layers and your floor will indeed peel and lift over time.
3. All coatings are NOT CREATED EQUAL, inferior chemicals will fail!
To the untrained eye floor coatings may seem equal or similar “but they are not!” The evolution of concrete coatings in the past few years has been immense. If the quote you received for your flooring application is a cheap one there are reasons for this; specifically the chemicals being used are not up to the highest standards for adhesion and protection.
4. Not using a vapor sealant. The leading cause of floor problems is related to moisture from the slab.
Concrete is similar to a sponge and if an installer or company is cutting corners by not using materials designed to resist high levels of moisture then beware, because that floor surface will inevitably fail!
5. Not using protective GarageGuard™ sealants formulated to protect against hot tires, oil spills, paints and toxic solvents.
It is virtually impossible to keep various contaminants, such as plasticine from hot tires (a hot tire will leech on to the floor surface) and other destructive elements, from affecting your floor. That is why specific heavy duty sealants placed on top of garage floors
